Our Projects
Statistics shows that 70% of women in Nigeria live below the poverty line and according to reports by The Labour Force Statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics, that there are significantly more unemployed women than men This makes women more vulnerable to social vices like human trafficking, prostitution, rituals, domestic violence, and sexual abuse etc.
REORIENTATION, EMPOWERMENT AND DEVELOPMENT (R.E.D) is a free Leadership and Skills Acquisition training program for women, organized annually by Purple Signet Development Foundation, and the first edition was held in 2017. R.E.D. is aimed at building and empowering them so they can become assets to themselves, their Communities, and the Society at large.
R.E.D. mainly has three objectives:
Reorientation: the mind of any man is the regulator of his life, which is why the first priority of this program is aimed at reorienting the minds of young ladies towards developing better value systems, ethics and morals, having a vision and setting goals for their lives, and inspiring them to become more responsible and productive to themselves and to the Society in general.
Empowerment: R.E.D for Girls organizes free skills acquisition training to teach young ladies’ marketable skills that would help them become self-reliant and financially independent, helping them develop self confidence in the process.
Development: the ladies are trained on leadership and personal development which involves developing a sense of worth, personal branding, entrepreneurship, amongst others.
Organizing R.E.D. for young ladies is because of our belief in the power and purpose of the female gender as agents of change and transformation in our Society. We hope to give more women -especially those without access to any formal education- the opportunity to be self-reliant and financially independent.
Skills that have been taught to participants since the inception of R.E.D includes:
- Machine Knitting & Crocheting
- Make-up
- Shoe, bags and accessories making
- Catering
- Fashion Design
- Wig-making and Hair styling
- Bead Making
- Computer Training
- Organic Soap-making
WIDOWS OUTREACH PROGRAM
Widows are amongst the most vulnerable yet neglected group or people in Nigeria because loss of a husband usually means loss of a provider, lack of security, caring for children alone, ridicule, stigmatization and in most cases, loss of property.
Project Help Our Widows (H.O.W) is a unique outreach for indigent widows and their children with the following objectives:
- To reach out to underprivileged widows with foodstuffs and cash gifts for the Christmas season.
- To help raise awareness of the plight of widows in our Society.
- To encourage others to lend a helping hand to widows and not be apathetic or insensitive or to their plight.
- To encourage widows who are going through a difficult time and to help lift their spirits to hope and dream again in the season of Christmas.
